THE REGION
From First Chat to Real Friendship in the North West
The North West grew faster than any other English region in the year to mid-2025 and now has more than 7.7 million residents, so being the new person here is nothing unusual. Day to day, though, life runs town by town across its 35 local authority districts. Preston, Warrington, Wigan and Blackpool each have their own centres and their own loyalties, while Cumbria and the quieter parts of Lancashire move at a gentler pace, with longer drives between places. Starting a chat is seldom the problem. Turning it into a standing arrangement is, so aim for something that repeats: the same quiz night, the same Saturday walk, the same class every week. Below you will find pages for towns across the region, from Chester and Lancaster to Stockport and Southport, each with ideas for taking that next step.
