Runcorn has a parkrun in Phoenix Park
Phoenix parkrun in Castlefields sets off every Saturday at 9am, a sociable way to make friends in Runcorn. Runcorn Hill Park holds Halton Council’s only 2026 Green Flag in Runcorn, with a boating lake, a bandstand and a café pavilion, and The Brindley theatre stands by the Bridgewater Canal on the High Street, with a gallery and a studio. Runcorn women can also use Gofrendly to meet.

Where is Runcorn Library at the moment?
Runcorn Library moved in April 2025 from Granville Street to a temporary home at 6 Church Street while The Brindley is enlarged to house it, with a new café. Check with Halton Council before visiting, and Halton Lea Library in Shopping City also serves Runcorn readers.
What is at Runcorn Hill Park?
Runcorn Hill Park is a local nature reserve with a boating lake, a bandstand and a café pavilion, and it is the only Halton park in Runcorn with a 2026 Green Flag. Its café pavilion makes a good meeting point for Runcorn residents who enjoy the outdoors.
Where does Phoenix parkrun take place?
Phoenix parkrun is held in Phoenix Park, off Castlefields Avenue East in Runcorn, at 9am each Saturday. Walkers, joggers and runners all take part, so it can become a regular weekly fixture with a Runcorn neighbour, followed by a hot drink afterwards.

Runcorn, an old town and a new town on the Mersey
Runcorn faces Widnes across the Mersey in Halton, joined by the Silver Jubilee Bridge and the newer Mersey Gateway, with the old town by the canal and new town estates such as Castlefields, Halton Lea and Norton built from the 1960s. In its nine wards, social tenants occupy almost 28% of homes and close to 15% of households are lone parents, each above the North West level. Estates planned around their own centres mean a friendly face can live a few doors away.
Commuting and childcare can crowd out friendships, and that can be lonely. Runcorn Library has moved temporarily to Church Street ahead of a planned move into an enlarged Brindley, and Halton Lea Library in Shopping City also serves the town. Brookvale Recreation Centre in Murdishaw is the town’s leisure centre, and Wigg Island and the riverside paths beside the Mersey add space for longer, quieter walks. Starting points:
