Make Friends in Leyland, around the park and the market

Around 67% of Leyland households own their home, more than the North West, so the same faces turn up at the park year after year.

Leyland gathers in Worden Park

Worden parkrun, held in Worden Park from 9am each Saturday, is a reliable way to make friends in Leyland, with a café, a hedge maze and Worden Hall nearby. Leyland Market trades at Kings Court on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays while its old building is refurbished, and the leisure centre pool reopened in 2025. Gofrendly gives Leyland women another way in.

Where is Leyland Market now?

Leyland Market has moved temporarily to Kings Court, under five minutes’ walk from its old site, and trades on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. South Ribble Council expects the refurbished market and a new market square in Leyland to be finished in 2027.

What does Worden Park offer in Leyland?

Worden Park in Leyland covers more than 60 hectares, with Worden Hall, a hedge maze laid out in the 1850s, formal gardens, a model railway and a café. It kept its Green Flag in 2026 and is the home of Worden parkrun every Saturday morning.

Is the Leyland Leisure Centre pool open?

Yes, the pool at Leyland Leisure Centre reopened on 19 July 2025 after a refurbishment, a week after the new gym. Booking a regular weekly swim at the same time is a simple way to get to know a few faces from around Leyland.

New to Leyland: how do I meet people?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, lets women in Leyland see who lives close to them and message before meeting. A loop of Worden Park ending at the café, or a Saturday look round the stalls at Kings Court, is an easy first plan.

Leyland, a South Ribble town in transition

Leyland is changing: the market building is being refurbished with a new market square due in 2027, and homes are going up on the former Iddons factory site. In its seven wards roughly 67% of households are owner-occupiers, while fewer than one resident in fourteen is aged 18 to 24, below the regional share. In a town of so many owner-occupiers, friendships can grow out of the same weekly routines in Worden Park and at the market stalls on a Friday.

When your children have grown or old friends have moved away, a quiet town can feel lonely. Worden Park spreads across more than 60 hectares, keeps its Green Flag in 2026 and is cared for with help from the Friends of Worden Park. Leyland Library on Lancastergate is a Lancashire warm space, and Wade Hall Community Association runs activities and a café for neighbours as well. Ideas to start:

1
Worden Park, with its café, maze and model railway.
2
Leyland Market at Kings Court, three days a week.
3
