Tipton paints, reads and walks the Tame

On Mondays from 12:30pm to 3pm the art group at Tipton Library on Unity Walk is a creative way to make friends in Tipton. One Saturday morning a month there is a library reading group too, and Victoria Park, Tipton’s central green space, earned a Green Flag again this year. With Gofrendly, Tipton women can find a friend to bring along.

What is Sheepwash Nature Reserve like?

Sheepwash Local Nature Reserve on Sheepwash Lane, Tipton, covers 39 hectares of reclaimed industrial land with young woodland, grassland, several pools and the River Tame. It attracts waders and wildfowl, has snakeshead fritillaries in spring, a picnic site and level access, and is open at all times.

Which Tipton park holds a Green Flag?

Victoria Park, Tipton’s central green space of more than 13 hectares, was among Sandwell’s Green Flag winners in July 2026. It has a pond, angling, bowling, a play area, fitness equipment, football pitches, a skate park, a tennis court and free parking for Tipton visitors.

Which Tipton statue starts the heritage trail?

The Tipton Slasher was William Perry, a 19th-century heavyweight prize fighter. His statue by Bill Haynes was unveiled in Coronation Gardens, Tipton, in 1993, and in 2025 the Tipton Town Library Local History Group launched a heritage trail that starts there and passes the Fountain Inn.

Tipton women: where to look for new friends?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, shows Tipton women others who live close by, from Princes End to Great Bridge, so they can message for a while and meet when ready. A walk round the pond in Victoria Park is a gentle start for a first meeting.

Tipton, a Black Country canal town of young families

Tipton is a Black Country canal town in Sandwell, and the statue of the Tipton Slasher, the 19th-century prize fighter, stands in Coronation Gardens. In the three Tipton wards social renting covers 36% of homes and nearly 23% of the population is under 16, the first almost double the West Midlands share and the second clearly above it. When children, school and shifts take up the day, time with other adults can be hard to fit in.

Those years can be lonely, but Tipton has free places to go. Victoria Park covers more than 13 hectares with a pond, play area, fitness kit and a skate park, Sheepwash Local Nature Reserve has 39 hectares of pools and young woodland along the River Tame, and Owen Street reopened in 2026 after almost £1m of improvements. Tipton Leisure Centre on Alexandra Road offers swimming, a gym and a dance studio. A few places to try:
