Hereford is a cathedral city on the River Wye, with Castle Green, the Old House and the cathedral in the centre. In fourteen city wards, about 35% of households are a lone adult and about 21% are let by social landlords, both above West Midlands levels. If you run a one-person household, a weekly routine in the neighbourhood lends the days a rhythm and keeps familiar faces around you, and the riverside paths on both banks of the Wye make that habit easy to keep.
With friends scattered across Herefordshire, even a small city can feel lonely. Hereford Library is in the Town Hall on St Owen Street while a new library is planned for the Shirehall, the Museum and Art Gallery on Broad Street is closed for redevelopment, and Hereford Leisure Pool on St Martins Avenue has four pools, including one with a wave machine.
