Cannock knits on Tuesday mornings

The Tuesday-morning Knit and Natter on Manor Avenue, where no booking is needed, is a welcoming way to make friends in Cannock. The same library runs Learn French, a Writers Group and a Thursday Games Club, Cannock Park was named a Green Flag park again in July 2026, and Cannock Chase parkrun starts from the visitor centre on Marquis Drive. Cannock women use Gofrendly to meet, too.

What can you join at Cannock Library?

Cannock Library on Manor Avenue has Knit and Natter on Tuesday mornings, Learn French and a Writers Group later on Tuesdays, a Games Club on Thursdays and a Sing and Smile group on the third Thursday. Most need no booking, so Cannock newcomers can simply turn up.

Is the Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock open?

No. The Prince of Wales Theatre in Cannock has been closed since April 2025. In August 2026 Cannock Chase District Council’s Cabinet voted to save and refurbish it, setting aside about £14m, but design work and an operator are still needed and there is no reopening date.

Where does Cannock Chase parkrun start?

Cannock Chase parkrun starts at the Cannock Chase Visitor Centre on Marquis Drive and follows a single clockwise lap on tarmac and forest trail. It drew 362 finishers in mid-October 2026 and sits about a 15-minute drive from Cannock town centre.

Can Cannock women find friends on the same estate?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, helps Cannock women see who lives around them, from Hawks Green to the town centre, and a brief message exchange can turn into a coffee. A loop of the rose garden in Cannock Park is an unhurried first plan.

Where Cannock meets: library, park and forest

Cannock lies south of Cannock Chase, an area of forest and heath with trails, a visitor centre and cycle hire at Birches Valley. In five Cannock wards, social tenants occupy about 21% of homes and unmarried couples make up some 15% of households, each above regional shares. For couples and families settling in, a weekly group just for you helps a circle grow, and forest trails start a few miles north.

With the Prince of Wales Theatre closed since April 2025 and the Museum of Cannock Chase shut, evenings in town can feel lonely. The council’s Cabinet voted in August 2026 to save and refurbish the theatre, Chase Leisure Centre on Stafford Road has pools, a gym and a golf course, and the library hosts a monthly Sing and Smile group. Six sites in the district won Green Flags in 2026. Cannock Park’s seasonal hours shorten from late October. Places to begin:

1
Cannock Library on Manor Avenue, with groups on most weekdays.
2
Cannock Park off Park Road, with a rose garden and tennis courts.
3
Chase Leisure Centre on Stafford Road.
4
Cannock Chase Visitor Centre on Marquis Drive, start of the parkrun.
5
The street market on Tuesdays and Fridays.
