Stocksbridge is rebuilding its library

The library is open in temporary rooms at IKON Church on Manchester Road while a new library hub is built on the same road. Stocksbridge Library is in temporary space at IKON Church, 512 Manchester Road, until a new library hub opens. It is open 10:30am to 5pm on Mondays, 10am to 5pm on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, and 10am to 3:30pm on Saturdays, with a lunch break from 1pm to 2pm.
When did the steel industry start in Stocksbridge?
The Stocksbridge steel story starts in 1842, when Samuel Fox took over a disused cotton mill to begin a wire-drawing business. His employee Joseph Hayward invented the Paragon umbrella frame in 1852, and the Fox Valley shopping centre was officially opened on the former works site in 2016.

None runs in Stocksbridge itself. Penistone parkrun, about 6km away in a straight line, starts by the skate park at Penistone Show Ground and loops the playing field before its trail section. Hillsborough parkrun is close to 10km away, on paths round Hillsborough Park.
