Grantham has three Green Flag parks

One way to make friends in Grantham is to build your week around its parks, market and museum. Wyndham Park, the town’s war memorial park, has a visitor centre, café and riverside walk, Grantham Market fills the town centre every Saturday, and Grantham Museum on St Peter’s Hill opens Thursday to Saturday. Gofrendly helps Grantham women find one another too.

Grantham: questions on meeting friends

What is Grantham's war memorial park?

Wyndham Park opened in 1924 as Grantham’s war memorial park and has held a Green Flag award for many years in a row. It has a visitor centre, a café, a riverside walk and a community orchard, which makes it a good place for a regular stroll with a new friend.

When is the market in Grantham?

Grantham Market runs every Saturday from 8.30am, with a craft market on the first Saturday and a farmers’ market on the second Saturday of the month. A regular Saturday trip helps Grantham residents see the same faces and start talking.

Where can you see shows in Grantham?

The Guildhall Arts Centre on St Peter’s Hill, run by the district council, hosts concerts, shows and an annual pantomime. Going along with someone new in Grantham gives you a shared evening out and plenty to discuss on the way home.

How can women new to Grantham meet friends?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, lets Grantham women see who lives nearby and message first. Suggesting a walk in Wyndham Park or a Saturday market coffee is an easy start, especially if you have only recently moved to the town.

Grantham's mix

Grantham is a market town in South Kesteven, on the River Witham, and since April 2024 it has been a parish with a town council. Across its seven district wards, private landlords let more than a fifth of all homes and lone parents head around 12% of households, each higher than the East Midlands figures. If you rent or are bringing up children alone, a friendly hello at the market or in one of the parks is a simple place to begin, and it costs nothing.

It can feel lonely to arrive somewhere without a network. Grantham has plenty of regular, low-cost places to change that: three Green Flag parks, a weekly market with monthly farmers and craft days, and an arts centre with concerts, shows and pantomime. Coming back to the same place each week does most of the work for you, and the market is a good first habit. Places to start:

1
Wyndham Park, opened in 1924 as a war memorial, with a visitor centre, café and riverside walk.
2
Grantham Market, every Saturday, with a craft market on the first Saturday and farmers on the second.
3
Grantham Museum on St Peter’s Hill, open Thursday to Saturday.
4
Guildhall Arts Centre on St Peter’s Hill, with concerts, shows and pantomime.
5
Grantham Meres Leisure Centre on Trent Road, offering an eight-lane pool, a leisure pool and a café.
LOCAL TIP
Choose one for this month and go every week.
