Chandler’s Ford is a largely residential area whose railway station reopened in 2003 after more than three decades, and whose name may come from an old ford over Monks Brook. In its two wards owner-occupiers hold roughly 83% of homes and some 26% of people have celebrated a 65th birthday, both far above the South East shares. In a mostly owner-occupied place like this, a regular group is the easiest place to turn a nod into a friendship.
Quiet streets can feel lonely when the children have grown up and moved away. The library on Oakmount Road is the main community hub, with a Living with Loss Café on two Fridays a month and a Computer Café every Friday morning. There is no leisure centre in the town itself, so swimmers head to Places Leisure Eastleigh at Fleming Park, where Eastleigh parkrun also runs on Saturdays. Good places to start:
