Tamworth knits, reads and runs by the rivers

On the first and third Friday afternoons of each month, Tamworth Library on Corporation Street hosts Knit and Natter, a cosy way to make friends in Tamworth. The library adds a reading café on the fourth Friday, and on Saturday mornings Tamworth Castle Grounds parkrun laps the riverside paths half a kilometre from the centre. With Gofrendly, Tamworth women can line up a companion for both.

Tamworth: castle, parkrun and market

What can you do in Tamworth Castle Grounds?

Tamworth Castle Grounds are open to all below the castle, with flowerbeds, river walks and a historic bandstand near the floral terraces. You will also find an adventure playground, tea rooms, cycle hire, tennis, bowls, free table tennis and an outdoor gym in Tamworth, all within a short walk.

Where does Tamworth parkrun go?

Tamworth Castle Grounds parkrun is two laps on concrete and tarmac paths, mostly flat with one small rise, about half a kilometre from Tamworth town centre. The route takes in views of the rivers Anker and Tame, the castle and the SnowDome, and around 300 people finished one recent Saturday.

When does Tamworth’s street market trade?

Tamworth’s market sets up each Tuesday and Saturday across George Street, Market Street and St Editha’s Square. Bescot Promotions took over running it from 31 March 2026 and plans more traders and themed markets, so it is worth a look on your next Tamworth Saturday.

How can Tamworth women build a local circle?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, shows Tamworth women profiles of others in their area, from Amington to Wilnecote, and lets them message before choosing a place to meet. A lap of the Castle Grounds and tea in the grounds is an easy first plan.

Tamworth, a Staffordshire town for couples settling in

Tamworth grew up around its Norman castle on the meeting of the rivers Anker and Tame, and its market still trades on Tuesdays and Saturdays across George Street, Market Street and St Editha’s Square. Borough-wide, cohabiting partners make up some 14% of households and 67% of homes belong to the households living in them, each a little higher than the West Midlands. When you arrive as a couple for a first home, you can know the street by sight and still have nobody to ring.

Settling in can be lonely at first, and Tamworth gives you good reasons to get out. The Castle Grounds below the castle are open to all, with a historic bandstand, cafés, free table tennis by the river and an outdoor gym, the SnowDome offers real snow slopes, an ice rink and lane swimming, and a new operator took over the market in March 2026. Tamworth Assembly Rooms stage shows too. Where to start:
