Redditch knits, crafts and runs by the lake

Knit and Natter on Tuesday afternoons at the library on Market Place, from 3pm to 5pm, is an easy way to make friends in Redditch, and a long craft afternoon follows on Thursdays. Traders fill Alcester Street on Thursdays and Saturdays beside the John Bonham statue, and Arrow Valley parkrun circles the lake every Saturday. Gofrendly lets Redditch women find someone to meet at any of them.

Where does Arrow Valley parkrun start?

Arrow Valley parkrun starts at the amphitheatre in Arrow Valley Country Park, where the run briefing is held, about 2 km from Redditch town centre. The course is two anticlockwise laps on tarmac, and the lakeside visitor centre on Battens Drive has a café overlooking the water.

When does the Redditch outdoor market run?

Redditch Outdoor Market is open Thursday and Saturday, 9am to 4pm, on Alcester Street, next to the library and the statue of the Led Zeppelin drummer John Bonham. The council opened the market in spring 2025, and it gives Redditch a regular place to browse and bump into people.

What is Forge Mill Needle Museum?

Forge Mill Needle Museum on Needle Mill Lane tells how Redditch once made 90% of the world’s needles, in the only surviving water-powered needle scouring mill of its kind. The Bordesley Abbey ruins next door can be visited at any time, and there is a small coffee bar.

Can Redditch women find friends near home?

Gofrendly is a women-only friendship app that lets Redditch women see others in their area, from Matchborough to Webheath, and talk by message before meeting in person. A walk on the tarmac paths around Arrow Valley Lake is a comfortable first meeting.

Redditch, a new town built around parks

Redditch grew from a needle-making town into a new town, and Arrow Valley Country Park, created in the 1970s, still runs through its middle with a 29-acre lake. One household in five across the borough is a social tenant, and 13% are unmarried couples, both higher shares than the West Midlands. Estates designed around cars can make casual meetings rare, so plan them in.

Moving onto a new estate is often lonely, yet Redditch has some good shared spaces. Morton Stanley Park and Overdale Park won Green Flag Awards in July 2026, the outdoor market opened on Alcester Street in spring 2025, and the Palace Theatre on Alcester Street puts on shows through the year. Forge Mill Needle Museum, with the Bordesley Abbey ruins next door, explains how the town came to supply needles to the world. The lakeside visitor centre has a café looking over the water.
