The Friendly faces group at Lichfield Library, held each Thursday afternoon in the Guild of St Mary’s Centre on Market Square, is a welcoming place to make friends in Lichfield. Which library groups run in Lichfield?
Lichfield Library in the Guild of St Mary’s Centre runs Craft and a cuppa on Wednesdays from 2pm to 3:30pm, the Friendly faces group on Thursday afternoons and a Book café one Wednesday morning a month, from 10:30am. All three are relaxed ways to get talking.
Where does Beacon parkrun go?
Beacon parkrun runs two laps around the edge of Beacon Park in Lichfield, about a kilometre from the city centre, on a mix of track, trail and grass. It starts near the children’s play park and the Lakeside Bistro, and a junior parkrun for 4 to 11-year-olds runs on Sundays.
Where are Lichfield’s Green Flag parks?
Four Lichfield District parks were named among the country’s best in July 2026: Beacon Park and Burntwood Park kept Green Flags, while Prince’s Park and Stowe Pool and Fields won theirs for the first time. Beacon Park covers more than 70 acres, with brooks, woodland and volunteering.

Lichfield is a small Staffordshire cathedral city, the birthplace of Samuel Johnson, and its market still trades in the Market Square on Tuesdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Across the six city wards a sizeable share of residents are at or beyond retirement age, 24% being 65 or over, and 39% of households own their home without a mortgage. Both figures run ahead of the West Midlands. Retirement, an empty nest or a recent move can leave long weekdays to fill, and that is where small regular groups help most.
It can feel lonely when old routines fall away, but the city is easy to explore together. Johnson’s birthplace on Breadmarket Street is a free museum, all four of the district’s Green Flag parks kept or won the award in 2026, and Stowe Pool and Fields received it for the first time. The new Lichfield Leisure Centre at Stychbrook Park opened in January 2026 with a 25-metre pool. Beacon Park also has new adventure golf and padel courts. Good first stops:
