What is at Bridgend Life Centre?
Bridgend Life Centre on Angel Street, run by Halo Leisure, has a free-form leisure pool with beach entry and a flume, aqua classes, an upgraded gym, a cycling studio, a health suite for over-16s, indoor bowls and a café, with Bridgend Library in the same building.
Can you visit Newcastle Castle in Bridgend?
Yes. Newcastle Castle on Newcastle Hill, cared for by Cadw, has free entry and is open every day, 10am–4pm. Its surviving stonework comes from a rebuild in the 1180s, when Henry II held the castle, and it once guarded river crossings into Glamorgan with Coity and Ogmore near Bridgend.
Which parkruns are near Bridgend?
Bridgend does not host its own parkrun. Porthcawl parkrun on the seafront, about ten kilometres away, drew 531 finishers in mid-October 2026, while Aberfields and Maesteg parkruns are smaller options in the valleys, so Bridgend runners can choose the atmosphere they like.
Can Bridgend women meet through an app first?

Bridgend, a town of homeowners in their working years

If you are in the busiest stretch of work, mortgage and young family, weekends fill up and weekday evenings shrink, so a lunchtime group or a regular class near home is usually the simplest way in.
Juggling a commute and a household can still feel lonely. Bridgend Life Centre combines a flume pool, aqua classes, an indoor bowls hall and a café, Newcastle Castle keeps stonework from a rebuild in the 1180s, and Bryngarw Country Park, with over 100 acres of meadows and woodland and a Green Flag this year, is a short drive north. The town centre is changing too, with a new college campus at Cheapside expected to open in early 2027 and the council now owning the Rhiw Shopping Centre. Places to start:
