Redhill grew up around the railway: the London and Brighton line opened in 1841 and a station opened on the present site in 1844. Before that, the main settlements were Warwick Town and a hamlet by Redhill Common. In three wards, close to 40% of residents are of prime working age, 25 to 49, and nearly 24% of households rent privately, both above regional levels. If you commute, weekday evenings and weekends are when friendships form.
Commuting can leave you lonely at home when the rest of the week is spent on trains. The Harlequin Theatre has been closed since 2023 because of RAAC, and building work might start in November 2026, but The Light cinema at The Rise is open. Earlswood Common covers about 100 hectares with two lakes, and the council’s countryside team can tell you about volunteering there. Memorial Park on London Road was awarded a Green Flag this year.
