Bicester has more than 100 listed buildings, and St Edburg’s Church is the oldest that survives. Across four wards, which also take in Caversfield and Ambrosden, close to 40% of people are in their mid-twenties to late forties and nearly 15% of households are cohabiting partners, both above regional levels. Some neighbours may be newcomers too, so a regular slot in the week helps faces become familiar on the street and at the school gate.
Arriving somewhere where you know nobody can be lonely. Garth Park, around the 1840s Garth House that the town received in 1946, has a bandstand, a skate park and a bowling green, and Bure Park has been a local nature reserve since 2005. The library at Franklins House runs a Thursday chess club and family history help on Wednesdays. Bicester Leisure Centre on Queens Avenue has two pools, and Vue Bicester shows films at Bure Place.
