Stirling writes poetry on Tuesdays

The Poetry Group at Stirling Central Library on Corn Exchange Road, every other Tuesday evening from 5.45pm, is a thoughtful way to make friends in Stirling, and the library also has monthly crime and science fiction reading groups. On Saturdays the University of Stirling parkrun circles the campus loch, and Markets Between Two Firths brings producers to Port Street. Stirling women can find company for these through Gofrendly.

Stirling, answered briefly

Is the Stirling Smith worth a visit?

Yes. The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum, founded in 1874, costs nothing to enter and has free parking. Doors open 10am–5pm from Wednesday to Sunday, which makes it an easy indoor meeting place in Stirling on a wet weekend.

How does the University of Stirling parkrun course run?

University of Stirling parkrun runs two clockwise loops of the campus loch on trail and tarmac paths, starting by the sports centre, about three kilometres from Stirling city centre, with a short climb near the rugby pitches. In mid-October 2026 the run counted 291 finishers and 23 volunteers.

When is the market in Stirling?

Markets Between Two Firths brings independent producers, fresh food and crafts to Port Street on selected Saturdays from 10am to 4pm. The remaining 2026 dates are 24 October, 14 and 28 November, and 12 and 19 December, so Stirling has a market most fortnights this winter.

How can women settling in Stirling make friends?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, lets Stirling women read nearby profiles first and open with a message. In a city with so many students, choosing someone who also plans to stay makes it easier to build something that lasts beyond a year.

Stirling, a young Forth Valley city

In the Stirling locality about 28% of residents are aged 16 to 29 and more than 18% of households rent privately, both far above the Scottish figures, with almost 8% of people living in communal establishments such as halls. With so many students and short tenancies, faces in your street may change from year to year, so if you plan to stay a while, look for groups with regulars who are not tied to term dates.

Being surrounded by people your own age can still be lonely. King’s Park, once a royal hunting ground, has a café, an outdoor gym and a walking circuit, the Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum, founded in 1874, has free entry, and the Macrobert Arts Centre on campus shows films and live performances. The PEAK on Forthside Way offers 25-metre lane swimming plus heat rooms for warming up, while Port Street has a Saturday producers’ market on selected dates through December. Places to start:

1
Stirling Central Library on Corn Exchange Road.
2
King’s Park and its café.
3
The Stirling Smith Art Gallery and Museum.
4
University of Stirling parkrun by the loch.
5
