Glenrothes meets in Riverside Park

Riverside Park parkrun, 500 metres or so from the shops, is a fresh way to make friends in Glenrothes, in a park that unveiled a £5m revamp in 2025. Its hippo-themed playpark, pump track, disc golf and labyrinth make easy meeting points, and Rothes Halls puts a library, a café and a theatre under one roof. Glenrothes women on Gofrendly can pick one as a first meeting place.

What is new at Riverside Park in Glenrothes?

Riverside Park officially opened its £5m revamp in June 2025, with a savannah-themed adventure playpark featuring a hippo, a pump track, a children’s cycling track, a relocated labyrinth, a disc golf course and about four miles of paths. In 2026 it won its first Green Flag, a milestone for Glenrothes.

What is the Glenrothes parkrun like?

Riverside Park parkrun meets every Saturday morning about 500 metres from Glenrothes town centre, on a mix of permanent and trail paths. On 17 October 2026, run number 67 had 163 finishers and 23 volunteers, so it is still young enough for newcomers to feel part of it.

What is on at Rothes Halls in Glenrothes?

Rothes Halls, in the Kingdom Shopping Centre, has hosted theatre and shows since opening in 1993, with a programme running into 2027. The same building holds Rothes Halls Library, with reading groups, a Musical Instrument Library and local history, plus a café for Glenrothes visitors.

Glenrothes women: where do friendships start?

Gofrendly, a women-only friendship app, introduces Glenrothes women to others nearby, with a few messages before any meeting. A lap of Riverside Park, past the hippo and the labyrinth, is an easy first plan, whether you bring a buggy or come on your own.

Glenrothes, a Fife town with a new-look park

In the Glenrothes locality nearly 24% of homes are social tenancies and around 11% are one-parent families, both a little above the Scottish figures, while about one resident in five has passed 65. That mix of young families and older neighbours means it helps to pick meeting places that suit a buggy and a walking stick alike, such as a park with miles of new paths.

Raising children or living alone can both be lonely in their own ways. Michael Woods Sports and Leisure Centre in Viewfield has three pools, a sprint track and a café, Rothes Halls has staged shows since opening in 1993, and the Kingdom Shopping Centre area is being reshaped, with demolition of empty buildings at Albany Gate under way. Kirkcaldy and Lochore Meadows parkruns are each about ten kilometres away, and Rothes Halls Library has a Musical Instrument Library to borrow from. Good first stops:

1
Riverside Park and its Saturday parkrun.
2
