Forfar keeps a book group most weeks
To make friends in Forfar, pick a group that has its own regular slot and go back the next time it runs. Forfar Library on West High Street hosts a Monday afternoon book discussion and a Tuesday night book group, each every four weeks, plus a Thursday local history group every fortnight. Forfar Loch parkrun sets off from Strathmore Rugby Club at 9.30am on Saturdays. There are Forfar women on Gofrendly who like the same pace.

When is the museum in Forfar open?
The Meffan Museum and Art Gallery at 20 West High Street in Forfar has no admission charge. From 1 April to 31 October it opens Wednesday to Monday, 10.30am to 4pm, while in winter, from November to the end of March, it opens Friday to Monday with the same hours.
Does Forfar have a pool?
Forfar Community Campus on Kirriemuir Road, run by ANGUSalive, has a 25m six-lane pool and a smaller studio pool with a moveable floor, plus a sauna and steam room. The campus took over from the old Lochside Leisure Centre in Forfar, which was demolished in 2022.
How long is the walk around the loch in Forfar?
The path around Forfar Loch in the country park is 4km, or roughly 2.5 miles, and suits all abilities. The park is open every day of the year with free parking, and there is a Ranger Centre and a children’s playpark close to the start.

A good share of the library timetable falls in working hours, so if you have a job, look first at the late opening on Tuesdays at the library and the weekend hours at the campus, and expect a group to feel noticeably warmer by the time you reach your third visit.
Arriving in Forfar without a standing commitment can be lonely, so it helps to give the week one fixed appointment. The Young at Heart Club meets at the library on Friday afternoons every fortnight, and Forfar Sailing Club keeps its base on St Margaret’s Inch on the loch.
