Blyth sits on the south-east Northumberland coast, a working port with a long beach, a harbour and a town centre redeveloped in recent years. Across the eight divisions that cover it, social housing makes up 25% of homes and over 13% of households are lone-parent homes, both above the North East averages. With so much new around Market Place, now is a good time to pick a regular spot where you start to see familiar faces.
Long shifts or raising children alone can be lonely, yet Blyth has a busy market place with its new pavilion, a sports centre with a pool, the beach at Blyth Links and Blyth Battery, a restored coastal defence site on South Beach run by volunteers and open seasonally. Plessey Woods Country Park, a short drive inland, earned a Green Flag for 2026, and the Wednesday flea market is a good excuse for a browse with someone new. Places to start:
