Aberystwyth is more than term time
The surest way to make friends in Aberystwyth is to join something that runs whether or not the students are in town. Aberystwyth parkrun does four laps of Plascrug Park every Saturday morning, and once a month, on a Tuesday at 7pm, Welsh learners and fluent speakers gather for a conversation session at Yr Hen Lew Du. Aberystwyth Town Library is in Canolfan Alun R. Edwards on Queen’s Square. Hours run 9am–6pm on Monday, 9am–5pm Tuesday to Thursday, 9am–4.30pm on Friday and 10am–4pm on Saturday, and it includes a local history library for family and town research.
Where in Aberystwyth can you spend a wet afternoon at no cost?
The National Library of Wales on Penglais, above Aberystwyth, charges nothing and opens from 9am until 6pm Monday to Friday and from 9.30am until 5pm on Saturdays. Alongside its exhibitions it hosts talks, and its family-history archives are a good excuse for a second visit.

Yes. Menter Iaith Ceredigion, known as Cered, holds Sesiwn Siarad at Yr Hen Lew Du pub in Aberystwyth at 7pm on the opening Tuesday of every month. It began in June 2026 and welcomes learners at any level as well as fluent speakers who want to talk.
